Turbines: Erie County gets a jump

Maybe Chautauqua County legislators can take a lesson from their neighbors to the north. On Monday, both John Mills and Lynne Dixon introduced legislation opposing wind turbines on Lake Erie.

“I don’t think this is a good project for the community. Research has indicated windmills disturb bird migration patterns and could impact fishing waters,” Mills said. “With Lake Erie as our largest natural resource, we must protect our waters and our wildlife. I plan to continue conversations with our local leaders to ensure residents’ voices are heard. I thank everyone who has reached out to my office and I stand with those in opposition to this potential project.”

What Erie County lawmakers are doing are setting guidelines for where turbines may or may not be located. Chautauqua County’s group of 19 need to be thinking — and working — along the same line.
