DUNKIRK: Agency’s move leaves opening

An exit by a non-profit from Dunkirk is good news and bad. Last week, Literacy Volunteers of Chautauqua County announced its August relocation from the city to Fredonia on Park Place.

The good news is the agency says it needs more space and the future site will offer that. The bad: Literacy Volunteers was one of the first to move into the refurbished Crocker-Sprague building at Washington Avenue and Second Street. It will leave an empty space in a building that was renovated with major grant money.

Currently known as the Chadwick Bay Lofts, the structure is in solid shape. Having part of the bottom floors empty would be unfortunate.
