Find solutions, not problems

The OBSERVER's view

Dunkirk resident Jeff Robinson is not finished yet. Even after last weekend’s beach cleanup that included at least 100 volunteers in the city, Robinson plans to continue to work on Point Gratiot beaches.

Good for him.

Many in this community are quick to point out what is wrong. Few, however, look for solutions. Robinson had one: he made a call to clean up Dunkirk’s four major beaches. To the community’s credit, many came out Saturday to help.

Another effort, according to co-organizer Jody Falkner, will take place next year. That’s a great start.

Our appreciation to all those volunteers — from Cub Scouts to CrossFit Dunkirk members. You made a difference through time, sweat and collecting trash that filled hundreds of bags. It’s now up to beach users to continue to maintain the conditions.

Our summer is already far too short. Let’s continue to keep our city beaches clean.
