GOWANDA: The right call on gathering
Give Gowanda village attorney Deb Chadsey credit. In handling what has turned out to be a controversial issue in the opening of a Dollar General, she is being open and honest about the process with the board and public.
At a meeting last month, Chadsey notified board members a meeting with store officials will take place on July 16. Since all members are expected to be in attendance, it becomes an open meeting.
“They want to present to the board, but if you’re all there, under Open Meetings Law, it has to be open to the public,” she said. “The public can certainly come and sit, but it’s not a public hearing.”
All excellent points by the attorney — and a win for transparency.
