DUNKIRK: Keep moving on safety plan

It is excellent to see the Dunkirk City School system moving ahead with a districtwide safety plan. Last month, School Resource Officer Steven Zentz discussed an overview of the idea to the city Board of Education, which is still in the early stages.

“There are representatives from every building,” Zentz said of the safety committees. “Each administrator is in charge of their safety committee and they appoint people from their buildings.”

Last spring, the Dunkirk Teachers Association came to the board to discuss concerns about safety at all the buildings. To its credit, the administration has listened and is moving forward with some proposals.

With school less than one month away, there is work to be done. But this is a positive step.
