DUNKIRK pier New beginning has arrived

There has been plenty of discussion — good and bad — about the improvements to the Dunkirk Pier. The timing was bad. It’s just not the same. Why do it all?

Today, however, marks a new beginning for what could be one of the city’s signature sites — now and in the future. The project, once approved by Common Council, was supported by funding from the Smart Growth Community Fund, a Buffalo Billion II initiative.

The improved pier provides improved pedestrian access to Lake Erie, better connections to Dunkirk’s waterfront trails, increased seating and green space, improved fishing and water recreation opportunities, new lighting, and new way-finding and signage.

Today’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, featuring local and state officials, begins at 10 this morning at the site.
