VILLENOVA: Elimination part of larger problem
Villenova’s elimination of its Planning Board is a problem, but it is not the major issue in how we govern today. The bigger issue is just how effective can a government representing 1,000 residents be?
Part of the reason for the Planning Board’s elimination is — surprise — not enough residents wanted to be a part of it. In larger municipalities, including Dunkirk, it is a similar problem.
What’s worse in all this is five people representing 1,000 making a decision that will impact thousands more. Nobody wants consolidation. Nobody wants to serve.
Those few who do lead, however, will impact us all.
