Shooting: Quick action by school district

Pine Valley Central School did everything right in an unfortunate situation on Tuesday morning. It acted quickly by closing school for the day. It also communicated throughout the day with parents and staff, especially through social media.

Most troubling, of course, was the shooting of a South Dayton man. For many in the community, the impact was great.

As far as we know, the victim remains in guarded condition and the suspect on the loose as of late Wednesday. But the school district put students — and staff — first on Tuesday morning when there were uncertainties. It’s always better to be safe.
