CONSTRUCTION: Road work nears respite

Construction at Routes 20 and 60 have caused plenty of headaches for motorists in recent months. Strange traffic patterns and impatient drivers have made some try to avoid the intersection at all costs.

Of course, all of this is due to the roundabout work, which began last spring. As we head toward December, state Department of Transportation crews will be ending phase one of the work.

“The project will shut down for the winter, with the traffic signal remaining in place,” said Joseph Morrissey of the state Department of Transportation. They still have work planned before the end of the month for the intersection at Routes 60 and 20. “Two lanes on Route 60 north of Route 20 will be reestablished prior to the winter shutdown, as was the case prior to the start of the project.”

Of course residents here remain skeptical of the final outcome. Expect those complaints to rev up again when the spring arrives.
