SUNDAY SHOUTOUT: Council exemplifies spirit of veterans

Members of the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council Honor Guard took part in a Veterans Day ceremony for a new monument.

Nor rain, nor sleet, nor snow. You can count on the Dunkirk Joint Veterans Council, especially its Honor Guard, to show up for military-related services in the area.

So it was no surprise on Nov. 11 — Veterans Day — that the group went ahead with a ceremony to dedicate the newest monument in Dunkirk’s Memorial Park. At 2 p.m., as the snow fell, Honor Guard members did a short ceremony that included a prayer and the firing of rifles and the playing of “Taps.”

The newest monument, dedicated to the Disabled American Veterans, has one more local connection. The Charles Tinley Post 142 is located on Talcott Street in the city. It is the last type of chapter that serves this group in the county.

God bless these dedicated members.
