THANKSGIVING Area organization answers call

Those in need can again count on Chautauqua County Rural Ministry this holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of many area residents, and one Fredonia church, the agency is again doing its part to assist those during this special time of year.

“This year we had 87 individuals and families, consisting of nearly 200 people apply for a holiday basket,” said Kathleen G Peterson, Rural Ministry executive director. She also noted that St. Anthony’s once again has given Rural Ministry a huge start to the holiday giving as they collected 51 turkeys, five hams, gift cards to purchase items and 800 pounds of food.

On Thanksgiving, it will be offering a free meal from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its offices at 319 Washington Ave. in Dunkirk. As for Christmas, Rural Ministry will accept Christmas food and gift applications only from noon until 3 p.m. Dec. 2 to 6.

Those who would like to help — or volunteer — can reach the agency by calling 366-1787.
