“Give Where You Live” is one of the slogans of the Northern Chautauqua Community Foundation. “Live United” is the call from the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County.

These are worth considering today, on Giving Tuesday. In what began as a movement to create an international day of charitable giving at the beginning of the Christmas and holiday season, many non-profits around the country are hoping you will donate to their cause.

Our request is simple: keep your donation local. Give to the foundation, the United Way — or even Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, which was the victim of a burglary last week.

When you give local, there is an accountability factor. That non-profit will tell you exactly how your donation was spent to better this community.

Today, more than ever, that matters.
