Dunkirk: Butting heads in the beginning

Common Council is expected to move the city of Dunkirk in a different direction tonight. Two appointed positions — one a human resource director and another an assistant to the mayor — are on the agenda to be removed during the meeting.

It appears these decisions have already been made quickly — exactly six days into a new council. For better or worse, to the victors go the spoils.

How this affects the relationship between the council and mayor moving forward is a bigger question. Both sides say they want to work together to better the city.

But these decisions do not have the look of collaboration. If anything, we are likely off to a rocky start.
