New year Tone setting begins today

The OBSERVER’s View

Today is a day for resolutions. Normally, they deal with physical activity, dieting or an attitude.

Our local leaders, especially those taking office today, need to set forth some resolutions as well. It begins with doing what is best for those they serve.

Too often, part-time elected officials become caught up in the minutiae of government. They look at the small items and not the big picture.

Overall, our area is taking steps to be a better place to live. Despite some strides, there is still a long way to go.

Entities working together, including municipalities and school districts, help better our region. When towns, villages or cities sit on the sidelines and not work toward a combined greater good, those individuals are drawing lines we just do not need in the 21st century.

Today, Jan. 1, we urge local leaders to look past personal agendas. We are stronger as one — and can accomplish much more together.
