URGENT NEED Making call for blood donors

The OBSERVER’s View

American Red Cross officials are making an annual call again this winter: blood supplies are low and there is an urgent need for donors.

According to a recent press release, the Red Cross had less than a three-day supply of type O blood available for patient emergencies and medical treatments. Type O positive blood is the most transfused blood type and can be given to Rh-positive patients of any blood type.

A number of drives were held in Dunkirk last week with others scheduled around the area for the coming days. They include:

≤ Eden — From 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Eden United Methodist Church, 2820 East Church St.

≤ Forestville — From 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Forestville American Legion, 6 Cedar Street

≤ Fredonia — Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., State University of New York at Fredonia, Williams Center; Feb. 14 from 1 to 6 p.m., Pucci’s Carpet One & Furniture, 112 West Main St.

≤ Sheridan — From 2 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sheridan Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6390, 2556 Route 20.
