Caring: Staying safe while active

Visitors to the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Facebook page are greeted with signs and smiles. It is one way for the residents there to communicate to their loved ones as the state has banned visitors until further notice due to the coronavirus.

Elderly residents are most at risk, even though in Erie County the 11 confirmed cases include residents who are 50 and under. Even so, staying safe and using caution is the best measure in preventing the spread of the virus.

For its part, Fredonia Place also is coping with the changes. “Just about everyone has opted to stay put,” said Mike Ferguson, director of marketing and communication. “We’ve tripled our activities schedule. We’re one of few facilities that have a seven day a week schedule. We’ve increased our exercise classes, indoor walking groups and the games and activities available.”

Being active is one way to continue with our everyday lives. Get outside when possible — and do more than just watch television when indoors.
