INVESTMENTS Market hits some big bumps

The OBSERVER's view

Wall Street’s recent ride is worse than a roller coaster. In recent days, the market has had its shares of major declines with one upswing.

You’re not the only one uneasy. Part of that emotion, however, comes from a bull market that has spoiled us for nearly a decade. After the last recession of 2008, the market has seen some tremendous results.

So as America readies for a presidential election and fears grow over the coronavirus, tensions have grown. “What I’ve been hearing and seeing is that there is going to be some short-term volatility,” certified financial planner Joe Gugino of Gugino & Ryel Financial in Fredonia. “With that, this quarter and the next quarter are really going to have some major disruptions, but long term, it’s going to be fine. Long-term risk really has not changed.”

As reassuring as that sounds, it’s never easy watching the declines — especially those large ones.
