POMFRET Drive-in plans drive enthusiasm

The OBSERVER's View

Judging from the social media response, it appears watching movies in the great outdoors is something many area residents cannot wait to take in. Last week, during the county Planning Board meeting, a proposal for that entertainment and other community events for the town of Pomfret was discussed.

According to our Thursday article, a drive-in theater and a multi-purpose field with a performance stage and a concession stand for food and drinks would be located at one site on the land. Another multi-purpose field will be utilized as a secondary screen location and provide space for community events, dance recitals, weddings, sporting events, farmers markets, graduations, cooking shows, family reunions, small musical events, car shows, dog shows and more. The second screen would be a 24-foot-by-16-foot LED which would allow for movies to be shown twice a day, three times a week for children and the seniors.

The third screen would be for RVers who would park and watch movies privately overnight.

“We would like to have 20 high-end parking spots for camper rigs with temporary electric, water and sewer offerings. In addition to these 20-rig spots, we would like to offer cabins for overnight rental. Both of these campground services would be in support of watching the movie. A limitation on allowed number of days (of camping) will be enforced to ‘keep guests moving’ and avoiding ‘long term guests,’ “ Dan and Gina Beckley with Advanced Production Group of Dunkirk.

County planners were enthusiastic while endorsing the project. In terms of location, it’s right off Route 5 so it’s easily accessible.

So far, so good.
