DUNKIRK It’s good to see city compromise
What happened on June 26 appears to be a major misunderstanding. An event at the Chautauqua County Fairgrounds, hosted by the Unique Car Club, was loud — and obnoxious to some.
Common Council heard the complaints — more than 100, they say. The club was put on notice and a threat to rescind a loud-speaker permit for Aug 14 was put forth by council.
Fortunately, as of Monday night, everything has been worked out. In announcing the agreement, Councilman At-Large Paul VanDenVouver was sincere. He noted that due to heavy rains, the event will be moved from Point Gratiot to the lot between the Clarion Marina Hotel & Conference Center and Tim Hortons on Lakeshore Drive and the permit will remain.
“I think it’s a win-win situation,” VanDenVouver said.
We agree. By the way, during that same meeting, council doled out a number of other loud-speaker requests for events. There was little resistance to all these, which take place during the day and on weekends throughout August.
