Fredonia Attorneys, trustees want secrecy

The OBSERVER's View

Reading James Lynden’s letter from the Sunday OBSERVER, there is a sense that something went wrong during the village of Fredonia retreat in April. What exactly happened there, from the other four trustees who attended, has not been discussed.

Lynden is the only one it appears who wants the discussion made public.

One thing, however, is evident. There was talk — that needed to happen publicly — about the village charter. That may come up tonight, it might not.

What’s even more appalling is the closed-door discussion has the backing, according to Lynden’s letter of the village attorney. The emails Lynden included in his letter indicated a resolution needed to happen quickly.

So, in a sense, this group of attorneys the village has hired believes it is OK for government representatives to illegally talk about public issues in closed doors. That is a real cause for concern.

Retreats, paid for by village taxpayers, need full disclosure. Without Lynden’s letter, there is none of that here.
