TOWN OF DUNKIRK Rental creates waves with neighbors
Town of Dunkirk officials are in a bit of a sticky situation. A home on Woodlands Drive has led to some residents voicing their opposition to the rental property, which is leased through VRBO or Vacation Rental Booking Sites, in the neighborhood.
On Feb. 16, those residents will have the opportunity to present their case to the town zoning board. “All we’re asking is that the code be followed as written,” said town resident Phil Leone during a meeting last month. “I know we’ve said that before. It’s like beating a dead horse. It’s been taking so long to get this matter before the zoning board… We don’t want you to think that we forgot about this.”
Location is everything and this home is located near the lake, where some of the highest-taxed valued properties are located in the region. For zoning board members, this is no easy decision that comes down to backing the residents – or catering to those from out of town who look at the waterfront as a destination.
