Fredonia: Annual traffic jam returning to village

Saturday will likely bring plenty of traffic to the village of Fredonia. For the first time since 2019, there will be two full in-person graduation ceremonies at the State University of New York at Fredonia.

Trini Ross, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York, will be the keynote speaker for the morning session with state Sen. George Borrello the main speaker in the afternoon ceremonies. For those who cannot get to the events, they can be viewed at www.fredonia.edu.

Additionally, this is the first commencement for university President Stephen Kolison. Kolison joined SUNY Fredonia in August 2020 in a trying time as all learning institutions grappled with how to handle the COVID-19 pandemic. For all intents and purposes, his leadership has been excellent.

Besides the commencement is one more popular downtown addition: the return of the Farmers’ Market to Church Street for the summer. Motorists need to be prepared to go a bit slower with all this activity, which is quite welcome after two years.
