BROCTON Seeking solutions to park problems

Brocton trustees had few answers regarding recent minor incidents of vandalism at the village park. Highway Superintendent Ken Becker said his department has been replacing spindles on the gazebo, as they go missing or get damaged, with them having replaced four in the last couple weeks.

Some suggestions to stop the meddling included gates, cameras or getting neighbors involved by watching what is happening in the park. “I question why we couldn’t put a gate up at the bottom of the stairs when it isn’t being used by a band?” Becker said. “The kids don’t really need to be in that gazebo.”

Silver Creek village trustees had issues and went with cameras around its park. It solved a vandalism case — and recent incidents have been far and few.

That consideration may be what is best. It will cost a small sum — but so will continued recklessness by those responsible for the problems.
