STREET RODS Club is engine for community

A summer staple in the city of Dunkirk is on the road again in 2022. On Sunday, the Lake Shore Street Rods will be holding its annual Harbor Cruise at Point Gratiot Park in Dunkirk.

But there is a bit more to this year’s event, where between 400 and 600 vehicles can often be in attendance. This weekend’s happening will mark the 50th anniversary of the organization.

It’s far more than just cars, by the way. Those members are quite generous in the community, normally donating to many of the north county’s nonprofit organizations.

Dan Salerno, one of the Street Rods original members, will be at Point Gratiot this year. “You make a lot of friends from all over,” he said. “We get people from Canada, Ohio, Pennsylvania and I know five guys from Arizona who come to our car show, then we head out to Syracuse for another show.”

Sunday’s event will be from noon to 5 p.m. It’s a great collection of autos — and super people.
