Fredonia One more salute for hometown hero

Honoring Fredonia hero and U.S. Olympian Jenn Suhr on Saturday made perfect sense. The event took place at the annual Red, White and Blues Festival.

Around 2 p.m., a crowd gathered to show its support for the village native on a picture-perfect day. Suhr and husband, Rick, offered their appreciation.

“This is not something you find everywhere, so thank you,” she said. ” … I have never seen the support … like you have shown me.”

Credit for the happening goes to the Fredonia Olympic Celebration Committee and Julie Essek, who was one of many that led a drive when Suhr became an Olympian to sell T-shirts and lawn signs that populated local lawns.

In addition, a monument to her achievements stands proudly in Barker Common stating: Jenn Suhr, Olympic Gold Medalist, World Record Holder, Presented by the Fredonia Olympic Celebration Committee.

It was, without question, one more golden moment.

Starting at $3.50/week.
