SNOWFALL Crews once again get the job done

When compared to 77 inches of snow that fell in Orchard Park, 2 feet of snow seems insignificant. That’s certainly not the case for all the area road crews, plow drivers and residents who were shoveling over the past weekend.

But there is no denying that the north county, for the most part, got lucky. The weekend’s storm — while at times dangerous — was nothing like our neighbors in Erie County experienced.

“Thank you to all Western New Yorkers and our emergency management experts and personnel who continue to show up for each other during this historic winter storm,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said during a press briefing on Sunday. “We are working around the clock to keep everyone safe and urge all New Yorkers to stay vigilant and prepared during this potentially life-threatening weather event.”

By Monday, major interstates and state routes were fairly clear — even around Buffalo — after the four-day wallop. We’re so accustomed to state and municipal crews who are so capable, we almost fail to notice their work.

In this case, what they have accomplished is tremendous. In any other state, especially those to the south, some would see it as a minor miracle.
