FREDONIA WATER SUNY needs added connection

If a new Brooks-TLC hospital is built in Fredonia, the plan is to have two sources for water. One would be from village system while the other would come from the North County Water District if there was a boil-order in effect.

That same plan is likely the best was to go for the State University of New York at Fredonia as well. During the past week, board members from the water district indicated they would be reaching out to university officials to see if they would be interested in having a line in case of future emergencies.

College Council also discussed the issue last week. “It might be worth looking into because it’s gotta be a PR problem,” Council member Joe Johnson noted.

Definitely.

SUNY Fredonia, while located in the village, is a huge regional resource. With enrollment numbers continuing to decline, water problems could add to the decision-making process for prospective students.

Fredonia’s system is flawed. Having one more provider at the university — when another boil-order is issued — is something that needs to be looked at urgently.
