DUNKIRK Beer connection drives city show

Attendees will get a taste of Dunkirk’s past at an event Saturday. A successful Beer and Breweriana Show in October that saw more than 250 people walk through the doors of the Kosciuszko Club in Dunkirk, has become a boon to a collectors’ club.

One of the highlights of the weekend event is legendary to the city. Koch’s Brewery dates back to the 1800s, as Fred Koch built a brewery at Ruggles and West Courtney streets. Koch’s Brewery operated as a brewery for beer and ale from the late 1800s until prohibition in 1920, then pivoted to soft drinks during the prohibition era.

“We put the club together because we’re just trying to keep Fred Koch’s name alive,” said Rob Wilcox, who coordinated the event this past fall with Joe Gula and Bob Dimmer.

This event will be from 9 a.m. through 2 p.m. at 252 Nevins St. with both floors of the club open for the free event. In addition, food and drinks will be available at Saturday’s show, which will feature more than 60 tables and 30 vendors.
