GOWANDA Development efforts still ‘exciting’

2 min read

One of the shining sites in the village of Gowanda is the refurbished Hollywood Theater. Last week, a high-ranking state official made the trip to the municipality to see the gem -- and get an update on a number of projects.

During his stop, Secretary of State Robert J. Rodriguez talked with community members as well as local officials regarding many of the upgrades taking place. For the village, it is not always an easy task.

Flooding has hampered the region more than once in the last 25 years. It creates a burden that also takes a toll on downtown.

Overall, Rodriguez seemed optimistic over what has taken place. "What's exciting about Gowanda is that they have a number of different initiatives in the area of economic development. They have done a lot of the planning work to think about and envision what they want to see in their community," he said.

Besides the theater, he also visited the Carpenter Building, a Gateway to Creekside Park, Main Street Alley, the AVM Gowanda site and the Palmer Street site. Some of the work has already happened, but much more needs to complete.

Once that is finished, just like with the Hollywood, it's possible for some future pieces of development to become stars again.
