It did not take long for the village of Silver Creek to find a capable replacement for Trustee Steve Romanik. Earlier this month, the board approved Kathy Tampio to take the open seat.
They could not have found a better candidate.
Through the years, Tampio has been an excellent leader in government. She served as County Legislature clerk for 11 years and also held the position of town supervisor in Hanover.
"I'd just like to thank the mayor and the Board for my appointment. I look forward to working with you on behalf of the village," she said.
Silver Creek, with a population of 2,600 residents, has made some tough choices in the last decade. It eliminated a police department, which is now overseen by the county Sheriff's Department, and its court, now overseen by the town.
Tampio's past connections - to both the county and town - could be a formula for even more partnerships in the future. So far, the formula for the village seems to be working.
