Jazz will be on the menu throughout the coming weekend in the village. Starting tonight, the annual Fredonia Jazz Festival that is produced by the Fredonia Jazz Society gets underway.
At Domus Fare restaurant on Main Street, the Nick Finzer Quartet will play at 5:30 and again at 8 p.m. today. Tickets are $50. On Friday, the SUNY Fredonia Alumni Jazz Band & The Fredonia Jazz Orchestra perform at Rosch Recital Hall at 8 p.m. Admission is free.
On Saturday, the festival moves to the Fredonia Opera House as six events, starting with the Afternoon Showcase, are planned starting at noon. The Showcase runs until 5 p.m. and features performances by four bands. Seating is general admission and the $15 ticket covers all four band performances.
At 7 p.m., The Nick Weiser Sextet will open for the Nicole Zuraitis Quartet. The sextet group includes musicians Kieran Hanlon, John Bacon, Elliot Scozzaro, Mark Filsinger, and Brendan Lanighan. Tickets are reserved seating and are priced $20 to $45.
In recent years, the event has become a tradition in the village. This happening -- now occurring over three days -- proves it keeps growing in popularity.
