ATHLETICS Flag football keeps scoring enthusiasm

Flag football teams from Dunkirk and Fredonia were battling Tuesday night to keep their seasons alive in the playoffs. Dunkirk was coming off a dramatic win over Southwestern on Monday while Fredonia is one of the top seeds in the Division 2 playoffs.

All things considered, the sport has proven popular in only a short time. “Last season, I thought for the first time to play the sport and learn the sport, it was a very exciting and awesome experience for everybody,” Fredonia head coach Nick Bertrando stated earlier this season. “For these ladies and young women to come in and learn a new sport from scratch, for them to pick up the nuances and skills necessary to be successful was awesome.”

One of the highlights for the Fredonia team was a victory over Clarence, one of the premier teams in the state. If both teams were victorious, their seasons would continue on Thursday.

Win or lose, there is plenty to be proud about.
