CEREMONY: Remembering workers, labor leaders

Saturday’s Workers’ Memorial ceremony that takes place at Erlandson Overview Park in Frewsburg will pay tribute to some of the region’s greatest advocates for those on the job.

During this year’s ceremony, plaques will be dedicated to the memory of members of the Chautauqua County Workers’ Memorial Committee who have recently passed away: Jack Rudy, one of the original Co-Chairs of the Committee, current members Doug Stock, a past co-chair of the committee, and Don Brisky. All were giant names when it came to getting major projects done locally while having partnerships with labor. This county benefited greatly from the leadership of these three individuals who will forever be cherished for their contributions.

Officials also announced new bricks will be added to the memorial walkway, inscribed with the names of individuals whose lives were lost while in the line of duty. Among them are Jarvis Wilcox, Kenneth Schunk, Grace Green Wilcox, Norman Kohl, Jeanne Ann Humm, Thomas A. Heelas, James D. Lloyd, Patricia Ann Grasso Bova, Allen W. Chase, town of Charlotte supervisor at the time of his passing, and Angelina Lamattina.

Charles “Chuck” DeAngelo, a Jamestown labor lawyer and a friend of labor, will be the keynote speaker. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m.
