COUNTY FAIR Week showcases the best of region
Today marks the unofficial beginning of the Chautauqua County Fair, which brings thousands annually to Dunkirk. While grandstand events include horse harness racing this afternoon, a majority of the happenings kickoff on Tuesday.
Fair board president Dave Wilson said residents can come and see everything the fair has to offer. “You can see a show, see the animals in the barns, ride the rides, go to grandstand events,” Wilson said. “It costs more to go see a movie these days. Theoretically it will offer a good day out and let you support local people and vendors.”
At the Maytum Family Theater outside the Floral Hall, events such as the junior tractor pull on Tuesday will be held. Other Maytum Family Theater events include the Collage Performing Arts, karaoke, junior demolition derby, a few bands, a baby parade, martial arts, dancers and more throughout the week.
At the grandstand, Tuesday is the demolition derby, Wednesday is a new event — figure eight racing — with the tractor pull Thursday, bull riding Friday and monster trucks Saturday. The week closes with another demolition derby on Sunday.
Tickets are available at the gate starting Tuesday. It is a great way to see what’s happening in the agricultural sector while taking in entertainment as well.
