DUNKIRK Marina news is a major splash
With all the uncertainty that surrounds Dunkirk’s finances, it is reassuring that one of the waterfront’s assets will be in good hands. On Tuesday, council members approved the sale of Chadwick Bay Marina, LLC to Steve St. George, Alan Steinberg, and John Atzrott, who run Triple S Marina, LLC.
Previous ownership turned out to be a disaster after criminal charges and troubles that led to a disqualification in a city fishing tournament. But this action brings about a new beginning — and some optimism.
During the county Industrial Development Agency meeting where the deal was first announced, Dunkirk Development Director Vince DeJoy expressed support for the new buyers. “We have a great deal of confidence in Mr. St. George and his team of investors and operators,” DeJoy said last month. “We have some DRI (Downtown Revitalization Initiative) funding that’s going to improve it.”
Tenants at the marina will definitely rest easier with the new group. A number of dedicated boaters come from all over Western New York to take advantage of the location near the city’s pier.
Dunkirk needs a strong anchor at that important site. This action paves the way for an exciting future along the shores.
