FREDONIA: Deja vu all over again in water study

Despite numerous reports over three decades regarding water in the village of Fredonia, there was a lot of talk, but no action. This evening, another report will flow at 6 p.m. before the Village Board meets.

Last week, Mayor Michael Ferguson announced the LaBella Associates engineering firm will report on its study of Fredonia joining the Northern Chautauqua County Water District. The meeting will be on the third-floor courtroom in case the study is to draw a crowd.

Without question, water is a divisive issue in the village. It also has been very destructive.

By doing nothing for more than 30 years, the trustees allowed the system to suffer. It’s such a problem that a year without a water emergency seems like a minor miracle.

There is a sentiment to keep the reservoir that would be costly. This report, however, looks at a district that is being maintained by Dunkirk.

In 2010, Fredonia was invited to be a supplier for this initiative. It turned its back on the idea due to its attitude of superiority.

Let us assure you that when it comes to reliable water — five boil-water orders in less than two years — the village is inferior.

Starting at $3.50/week.
