Forestville: Conference adds jump to hamlet

Forestville will be buzzing this weekend when the annual Southwestern Association of Volunteer Fireman’s Convention comes to town. The event begins setting up Wednesday with events being held Thursday through Saturday.

Besides additional traffic with volunteers staying within the hamlet at a number of different locations, there will be live music at The American Legion from Thursday through Saturday. There will also be a beer tent, along with food and merchandise vendors. The event is open to the public. Entry to the tent for live music is $5.

There will also be two parades during the convention, including the Firefighter Comic Parade at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, along with a Grand Parade at 3 p.m. Saturday.

Among the departments to be represented include: Belmont, Bolivar, Chautauqua, Cold Spring, Delevan, Doyle, East Town of Dunkirk, Elma, Farnham, Forestville, Franklinville, Gowanda, Highland, Lake Erie Beach, Machias, North Evans, Portland, Scranton, Silver Creek, South Dayton, Sunset Bay, Wellsville, West Valley, Westfield, Windom, and Woodlawn.

Attendees are expected to begin arriving today. This event is one more positive for Forestville, which continues to get things done through volunteer spirit.
