FREDONIA: Spell out coming major decision

Attorney Sam Drayo Jr. is right in his request regarding the Fredonia Village Board. Last week, he penned a commentary to the OBSERVER regarding a resolution that is scheduled to be decided on Sept. 10. It deals with the future of the water system.

Simply put, while we have noted the village has been transparent in the direction it is moving, there is still silence regarding what exactly the resolution states that the Village Board will be deciding in less than two weeks. In Drayo’s eyes that is a problem.

“The various resolutions proposed for the Sept. 10 meeting involve major decisions involving the Village water supply,” he wrote. “However, the complete text of the proposed resolutions have not been made public by the Village Board and they should be. They need to be made public in the OBSERVER as soon as possible. The public can’t make intelligent comments on resolutions they haven’t seen.”

We would add that the resolution is not just another item for the Legal Notices of this newspaper. It is an outright news release. As of Friday morning, there were items on the village website for hearings on the increased water and sewer rates, but nothing regarding the potential decision on Sept. 10.

Drayo served for decades as the attorney for the Village Board. He is no stranger to these types of actions.

No matter how this plays out, there will be high emotion and disappointment — for both sides. Full disclosure for the resolution, at the moment, is becoming a priority.

Starting at $3.50/week.
