Thruway: Response ‘gratitude’ in tragic crash
A tour bus mishap on the New York State Thruway on Friday afternoon took an emotional and devastating toll on many over the weekend. So often, residents here use that Interstate to get to events in Central and Eastern New York.
For hours on Friday, the road was an emergency zone. Five people died in the accident and several were injured — with some still in regional hospitals on Monday.
Within hours after the accident, many issued statements regarding the tragedy. State Sen. George Borrello, R-Sunset Bay, noted the response likely played a role in saving many others.
“We extend our deepest gratitude to the professional and volunteer responders from Western and Central New York, whose tireless efforts in the face of heartbreak and urgency embody true compassion. In close coordination with State Police, they are ensuring that every victim receives the immediate and empathetic care they deserve,” he said. “Their swift response and seamless collaboration reflect the very best of our emergency services, rising to meet tragedy with courage, skill, and humanity.
“We also recognize the extraordinary coordination among local hospitals, Mercy Flight teams, and trauma specialists, who mobilized without hesitation to meet the needs of over 50 passengers. In moments like these, the strength of our community shines through, in every act of service, every life saved, and every hand extended in support.”
Amen.
