Brocton: New playground an important piece
Bans on cell phones within schools across the state has been one of the bigger discussions in recent months from area districts. By many accounts, the effort is showing plenty of signs of success.
Getting youth outside is one more important aspect. With technology surrounding young minds, there is definitely a need to get moving. This week, Brocton Elementary School celebrated that effort in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new playground. During an event Monday, students, staff, families, Board of Education members, and community supporters gathered to celebrate this milestone.
District officials said the playground, one of the largest in Western New York, represents a tremendous undertaking by the school and the community. Funded and supported through the dedication of families, staff, and community partners, the project highlights the power of working together to create something lasting for students.
“It is important for our students to understand that this playground is a gift from their community. It was built for them, and we hope they develop appreciation and gratitude for the support that made it possible,” said Principal Molly Dehlinger.
That’s an important message moving ahead. Brocton schools, which is currently undergoing upgrades at its buildings, also understands the importance of keeping children active while being outdoors.
With winters lasting too long in our region, the new facility that can be used during the warmer months is worth cheering.
