BUFFALO SPORTS Magical moments close out holidays

It is a historic weekend for Buffalo sports. On Saturday afternoon, the Sabres go for an unbelievable 11th straight win when they take on the Columbus Blue Jackets while on Sunday at 4:25 p.m., it is likely the final game for the Bills at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.

For the Sabres, a team that has missed the playoffs for 14 years, the recent winning streak has boosted hopes and ticket sales. The 4-1 win over the Boston Bruins on Dec. 27 had KeyBank Center rocking. That’s been a very unusual happening during the last decade of hockey that has been filled with last-place finishes and disappointment.

Buffalo’s football team, however, is going back to the playoffs for the seventh straight year. But it is unlikely it will have a home game during the postseason since it failed to win the AFC East. That’s why the contest against the Jets is likely to be a final farewell for fans and the NFL.

There have been many magical moments at the former Rich Stadium over five decades. New memories will be made in 2026 at the neighboring complex, which already has a major presence along the southern suburban skyline.

Starting at $3.50/week.
