DUNKIRK: ‘Celebration’ aids those in need

An event this weekend is a trip back in time — while supporting an important cause. On Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Northern Chautauqua Conservation Club in Dunkirk, a “Let’s Glow Crazy” event that is an ’80s-themed fundraiser begins rocking.

According to organizers, the event benefits Chautauqua County Rural Ministry, specifically The Friendly Kitchen and the Emergency Food Pantry. Both programs provide meals, groceries, and support to local residents struggling with food insecurity.

“This event is a celebration of community and compassion,” said organizer Lorie Mets. “The Friendly Kitchen and the Emergency Food Pantry serve people from all walks of life, and by coming together to have fun, we’re helping our neighbors in a meaningful way.”

Poverty rates in Dunkirk, according to the U.S. Census, is about 26%. It is not much better in Fredonia at 24%.
