Embracing new start for WCA Home

Word of a new beginning at the WCA Home in Fredonia brought plenty of enthusiasm from area leaders and community residents. Last Sunday, it was announced the historic facility on Temple Street would be brought back to life as the new Northern Chautauqua County Headquarters for Aspire of WNY.

According to the news release on Sunday, the partnership is the culmination of a multi-year effort by the WCA Home board to secure a mission-aligned nonprofit organization to continue the building and organization’s legacy of human services and community support. On March 10, Aspire of WNY and the WCA received approval from the village of Fredonia on their request for a use variance for the property on Temple Street.

Aspire of WNY plans to use the historic structure as a center for day habilitation, vocational training, respite care, and community integration programs. This will significantly expand critical services and employment opportunities in Fredonia and across Northern Chautauqua County.

“Aspire of WNY is honored to be entrusted with the next chapter of the WCA Home,” said Renee A. Filip, President & CEO of Aspire of WNY. “This facility is the perfect location to deliver and expand our person-centered services to the Fredonia community, creating a true hub that brings together people of all abilities. By investing in this beautiful, historic property, we are continuing the WCA Home’s powerful legacy of support, ensuring it remains a source of pride and opportunity for generations to come.”

Previous efforts with the former senior and adult care facility faced opposition and pushback. This endeavor, however, is being embraced.

It is an excellent start.
