Impressive list of Westfield projects
Viewing from a distance, there seems to be little doubt that the village of Westfield is one of the most organized and aggressive communities when it comes to funding. Last week, state Gov. Kathy Hochul announced projects planned by recipients of the NY Forward grant.
Westfield had an impressive lineup, which totaled $4.5 million.
— Establish a Small Project Fund at $508,000.
— Redevelop the Former Welch’s Administrative Building into Apartments and Commercial Space at $1 million.
— Create a Pocket Park on Clinton Street with Public Restrooms and Bicycle Repair Station at $816,000.
— Enhance Safety and Tranquility at Moore Park at $167,000.
— Build a Covered Stage Structure to Enhance Amphitheater Performances at $149,000.
— Launch a Community Co-Op for Makers and Entrepreneurs at $328,000.
— Reinvent the Burns Block as Live / Work Space at $589,000 for the historic Main Street building for new apartments and commercial space.
— Improve Community Space at Eason Hall at $800,000.
— Expand CK Natural Fruit Juice’s Cold-Pressed Beverage Production Capacity at $143,000).
“The DRI and NY Forward winners in Western New York are extraordinary communities with so much to offer in terms of resources, culture and history,” Hochul said. “These awards are part of our ongoing efforts to transform downtown areas across the state and I look forward to watching Western New York use these funds in a way that highlights the people and businesses that make up a vital part of our great state.”
This is not happening by accident — it is attention to detail. It deserves praise.
Other struggling municipalities — many facing a crisis in the north county — need to take note. There is an opportunity through the state to better your neighborhoods.
