The OBSERVER’s View: City market hitting its stride

A fairly new summer tradition gets started again on Wednesday. Dunkirk’s Farmers’ Market season begins Wednesday and lasts through Oct. 14. The event runs from 9 a.m.. to 2 p.m. — no matter what the weather — outside Dunkirk Senior Center at 45 Cliffstar Court under the agrarian pavilion complex.

“We are so very grateful to Refresco for stepping up time and again to support the Dunkirk Market and I am proud to announce that they will once again be the Title Sponsor for our 2026 Dunkirk Farmers Market season!” said E.J. Hayes, city of Dunkirk Deputy Director of Planning & Development. “On behalf of Mayor (Kate) Wdowiasz, and the City of Dunkirk, we would like to once again thank Refresco for their continued support of the Market for the fifth season in a row. Their outstanding support for our community and local farmers is so greatly appreciated!”

Dunkirk’s foray into downtown markets has not been as successful as other neighboring communities. Fredonia, Westfield and even Forestville have vibrant locations. But there is no questioning the importance of the weekly event near downtown.

Roberto Fred Farms and Richard Feinen Farms will return to the Market weekly in 2026. Both offer a wide variety of vegetables, fruit, herbs, preserves, honey, and vegetable plants. Conklin Family Farms will also return to provide an assortment of beef, pork, eggs and select dairy products. Ma Baker is back offering their ever-popular breads, pastries, jams and dip mixes.

Additionally, Sunshine Honey will be returning with varieties of honeys including clover, goldenrod, basswood and locust. New to the market is Enchanted Mountains Candle Company that will offer a display of soy candles, wax melts, art prints and Blind Date with a Book gifts.

If you cannot get to the nearby locations on the weekends, Dunkirk’s site is worth a trip.

Starting at $3.50/week.
