Since 2024, Dunkirk has faced criticisms for overspending and failing to balance its annual budget. But come the Fourth of July, many things do go right.

Once again, the city shined during festivities — especially with the fireworks finale. Photos shared on social media during the weekend once again proved the display is one of the best in Western New York — and maybe the state.

Randy Woodbury, city Department of Public Works supervisor, in an email early Sunday proclaimed it “another spectacular show.” He’s right on the money judging from this photo that was submitted to our newspaper and taken by Sandra Shisler.
