The OBSERVER’s View: Getting a better take on Fredonia project
No one is quite sure what to expect in terms of attendance at today’s public information session that focuses on the future of the Fredonia water system. Adding to some of the confusion, the event is taking place at the new Pomfret town hall from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at 10410 Chestnut Road in Dunkirk.
What those who attend will see is a signboard station format. “Stations will be positioned around the venue with posterboards sharing information on various aspects of the project,” according to an informational flyer released early Monday by the village government.
Fredonia is attempting to connect with the North County Water District, with eyes on decommissioning the village’s own treatment plant and reservoir.
Despite recent comments from those opposing the move, officials are hoping to avoid a debate. A letter in Wednesday’s OBSERVER probably put it best when noting the possible transition. “This means working together without malice, becoming dutifully informed, and accepting that the perspectives of others may be valid,” wrote Pamela Ruis of the village. “Intimidation, baiting and taunting have no place in our decision making process.”
Very well said.
