The OBSERVER’s View: Special library tribute built ‘relationships’

2 min read

A tradition at Anderson-Lee Library will pay tribute to a former employee who was part of the idea. This Saturday, a special one-day event in recognition of Native American Heritage Month begins at 11 a.m. at 43 Main St.

"From the beginning, one of the most important parts of the program has been the opportunity to build relationships and collaborate with members of the Seneca Nation," the library said in a statement. "This year’s celebration will be especially meaningful as we gather not only to honor Native American heritage and culture, but also to remember and celebrate Huff and the lasting impact she had on our library and our community."

According to the news release, there will be speakers and reflections, followed by a meal at noon featuring corn soup, frybread, and strawberry drink. At 1 p.m., the library will dedicate this year’s celebration in memory of Huff. Friends, family, library patrons, and members of the community will have an opportunity to gather, share stories, and remember her and the many programs she helped bring to life over the years.

Every year in November - for the last decade -- the library's programming, through speakers and topics, has done an excellent job of informing its patrons and the community of the Seneca Nation of Indians history and significance to the region. This year's special ceremony is just as important.
