Pro Bats Yankees 5, Lil Magill’s Giants 3

The Yankees (2-0) manufactured an unlikely four-run final inning and held on to defeat the Giants, spoiling opening day for Giant fans.

Evan Carmello (two hits, two runs) opened the seventh with a single. Joe Polichetti then slugged a one out double to score Carmello. As Polichetti tried to stretch it to a triple, an errant throw out of play allowed Polichetti to score to tie the game. Jason Howard then singled and Brent Carmello followed up with a double. Another throwing error forced home Howard to take the lead. Dennis Gawronski’s RBI single closed the scoring for the Yanks. Justin Vara also tripled earlier in the game for the Yanks. Vara and Matt Eaker (winning pitcher) combined to pitch the Yanks to victory, striking out six and walking four.

The Giants were led at the plate by Jared Aiken with two hits, while Todd Fryberger and Jason Tomkiewicz collected RBI singles of their own. Tomkiewicz and Nick Raynor pitched in the loss, allowing only three earned runs, striking out five and walking two.
