Friday Night Vineyards Couples League.

12 couples got together Friday Night for golf, but unfortunately, mother nature shortened the round of golf with rain. All golfers still had a great time as it was like Thanksgiving, as Mannings Catering put on a full turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Scores were adjusted with the best at 32 and the highest at 36. Closest to the pin on #3 was Jim Korzeniewski. This is a just for fun league open to all couples. Please call the Vineyards at 672-7888 to sign up for this Friday’s round no later than 7 p.m. this Wednesday, so we can have a head count for dinner. Gowanda Recreation softball tourney June 30

Gowanda Recreation will open their new Gateway Park softball field with a men’s slow pitch double elimination tournament and Home Run Derby Contest on Saturday, June 30. The first game begins at 11 a.m. Cash prizes and awards to the top teams plus complimentary gifts for each team. The entry fee is $100. Shorewood hosting LECOM qualifier July 2

On Monday, July 2, Shorewood Country Club will host the LECOM Health Challenge Open Qualifier. Shorewood is one of Western New York’s oldest private golf clubs and is known for it’s championship course and panoramic views of Lake Erie. Shorewood is celebrating its 100th Anniversary this year and is privileged to host this field of outstanding golfers.

This 18-hole qualifier at Shorewood gives players the opportunity to gain a spot in the starting field at the LECOM event at Peek’n Peak Resort on July 5-8. The LECOM Health Challenge is one of 25 professional golf tournaments on the Web.com Tour and in 2018 has an annual purse of $18.6 million. The Web.com Tour is the path to the PGA Tour and approximately 75 percent of PGA Tour players are Web.com tour alumni.

LECOM (Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine) is the nation’s largest medical school and is sponsoring the LECOM Health Challenge for the next three years. They have partnered with the Web.com Tour to encourage health and wellness, as well as highlight golf professionals like their LECOM players. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the LECOM Student Scholarship Fund, as well as other charities in Chautauqua County including the United Way.

The field of over 150 will boast several players that are ranked nationally and internationally. This will be a great opportunity for our community and golf enthusiasts to see some of the best players in the world. It promises to be a full day of great golf and exciting shot making.

The 18-hole qualifier begins with the first tee time at 8 a.m. The public is invited to walk the course and follow these exceptional players on their qualifying round. Please join us at Shorewood Country Club for this special event and watch these fast rising golfers attempt to qualify for a spot at the LECOM event at Peak ‘n’ Peek. Parking and admission are free. Fredonia State’s diving camp July 9-13

Fredonia State will conduct a springboard diving camp July 9-13 at the Steele Hall Natatorium. Novice to college divers from ages 6 to 18 are welcome. Divers can attend in half day or full day sessions. The camp hosts resident divers as well as commuters. Instruction will emphasize proper techniques on the board, in the air and entries into the water. The pool is equipped with three boards, trampoline and dryboard with spotting belts. CHRIC Classic Golf Tournament set for July 28

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Home Rehabilitation Improvement Corporation (CHRIC) will be holding its third annual CHRIC Classic Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 28 at the Chautauqua Golf Club, 4731 West Lake Road, Chautauqua.

Josh Freifeld, executive director of the CHRIC Board of Directors, invites the community to come join CHRIC for a day of golfing fun. Registration and lunch starts at noon with a 1 p.m. shotgun start on Lake Course. Entry fee is $100 a player or $400 a foursome which includes 18 holes of golf with cart, lunch, two drink tickets, appetizers, music, cocktails and dinner. For friends and family wishing to join in the dinner festivities, there is a $30 dinner only option.
